Pepper Rides a Motorcycle or Learning is a Spiral

Pepper is our 13 lb Chihuahua mix. This little guy is a constant reminder of unconditional love and how to have fun anywhere, anytime.

He did an amazing thing this weekend. He rode the motorcycle with Norm! He loved it!

We’ve been on a journey of finding all of the ways Pepper likes to get up high and experience motion. It started with a simple realization that he loved being carried around. That’s not so unusual. Lots of little dogs like being carried. He likes to stand on the back of recliners and couches. Again, not a big deal for a little dog.

But then came the wheelbarrow. He jumped in the wheelbarrow one day, and Norm started pushing him around. Pepper rode it like the captain of a ship- ears up, eyes bright, smile on his face!

Next, we found him lying on the outside swing while it was swinging. Perfectly content, surveying his domain while the wind blew around his fur.

The next big adventure, truck rides. With the windows down, his whole head was outside while cruising down the road at 65 mph. His ears were flattened to his head by the wind, his nose twitching madly, his eyes squinting into the wind. It can be 40 degrees or 95 degrees; this boy wants to take a truck ride. This is total joy!

Engine noises don’t bother Pepper. Norm was holding Pepper while sitting on his motorcycle. The next thing I know, Pepper is zipped up into his jacket, and they are taking a very slow ride down the street. Since then, we’ve graduated to a sling, specially made for dogs, that Norm wears while taking Pepper for motorcycle rides. They get up to 30 mph, and Pepper, perfectly content, nose twitching, squinting at the world going by.

It’s a daddy doggy adventure that brings both of them joy.

Pepper’s adventures into feeling the wind in his fur have been a spiral, gradually taking bigger risks- from riding in our arms to feeling the breeze on a motorcycle. As he got used to each adventure, each level of risk, he stepped up to another level.

His story is just like ours as we learn to embrace risk, set boundaries, or personally grow. Each time you think you’ve got it nailed, something new pops up, allowing you to learn the lesson on a whole new level.

It’s the beauty and the frustration of continual growth. As a business owner, a leader, you are going to be asked to grow. Your business demands it. If you stagnate, so does the business.

As new challenges rise, remember, you’ve already learned this at one level; it’s time to learn it on a new level.

A quick example I’m going through: I’ve been making offers for one-on-one and group work for years. My latest foray into a new kind of offer has been a membership. The idea brought up all kinds of concerns about who would want this work consistently. Who is interested in entering a new community I’m building? Am I ready to lead a group of women?

A membership was the next level up in my leadership spiral and in my offer spiral. (Your offer or leadership spiral will look different than mine.) It felt like a risk.

I committed fully and now have an amazing group called the Soulful Success Circle. The participants love it and so do I!

The next level in my offer spiral? A DIY course I’m building. I know folks want the information, but I’ve never offered a course. It’s a lot of work and a risk to get it out into the world. It’s a new level of accountability to my community by providing a more budget friendly, flexible way to learn from me.

I’m looking forward to the growth, to the view from another level up the spiral. What’s the next level of my offer spiral? I don’t know yet. Let me get through this level, and I’ll let you know.

What’s the next level of your growth spiral look like? I’d love to hear where you are and what you are growing into.
