5 Things I Learned Making Reels
I made 11 reels in 12 days. For some folks, it doesn’t sound like a lot.
For me, I’ve never had a great relationship with social media. I’ve gone from refusing to get on it to considering it an acquaintance that is suspect at worst and supportive at best. Right now, we are swinging toward the supportive side.
Cranking out 11 reels in 12 days was a chore on some days, other days it was easy. If I allowed myself to forget about doing it for even a minute I didn’t get the reel done.
I did learn from doing them and, hopefully, what I learned will help you…
I am better at them when they happen organically. If I have to plan, it’s not nearly as much fun. AND if I don’t remember that I need to make a reel, that organic moment could easily fly by.
The fifth reel I did went viral on IG! It shocked the hell out of me. It was a great acknowledgment from the Universe that I was doing the right thing. That viral reel has helped all of my other reels reach far more than anything I had done previously. Consistency …. All of the times I stress consistency … THIS is why. The impact of that one viral reel is felt across my social platforms.
If I had a content plan for the reels, life would have been easier. Again, I’m highlighting what I talk about- have a plan!
Include reels in your launch plan. Imagine if you actively include reels in your launch plan for your next great offer and one of them goes viral? It only takes one and you reach a whole new audience. That creates only goodness for your offer.
Don’t cross-post TikTok reels on other platforms. Besides the fact that they contain a TikTok brand, it just looks ‘icky’. Interestingly, before I started my reel streak, I winced when I saw a reel on Facebook or Instagram with the TikTok branding. That ‘eeewww’ wince. Somehow, when I was posting for myself, I thought the branding wouldn’t give me the same ‘eeewww’ I got from everyone else’s reel. I was wrong. Don’t cross-post TikTok videos.
The final analysis shows me that reels are a good thing. I will include them in the marketing for the new offer I am launching in about a week.
I want my business to be fun, stimulating, and interesting. I want to provide value to followers. Maybe reels are the content strategy that convinces me that social media is the way to go … I doubt it, but they go a long way toward making the case.
