Sacred Commerce: When Business Becomes a Practice of Love
I live on a beautiful piece of land. The animals and the plants light up my days. The land was mistreated before we moved in; part of our mission is helping it restore itself. We plant native species and refrain from using chemicals to control bugs or weeds. We celebrate every native bug, mammal, and slithering creature.
A quick note on “weeds”: some of the most intricate and amazing flowers spring from these misunderstood plants. “Weeds” also provide homes for generations of creatures- hundreds of species that create a healthy ecosystem.
I maintain a vegetable container garden🫙, which has been a challenge this year. It’s the first year for the garden in a new space, and it has attracted bugs that eat almost everything I’ve grown. I’ve used natural methods to try to beat them back. Sometimes I lose. Our blueberry bush was destroyed by worms that appeared overnight! One day, I had a beautiful blueberry bush; the next day, not a leaf remained.
The same sudden devastation can happen to your business. COVID struck, and everything changed. Elections🗳️ shifted the landscape, and everything changed again.
Just like an ecosystem is subject to multiple factors like water, temperature, and climate changes, your business is at the mercy of changing mores, beliefs, and economies.
Today’s potential clients are smarter than ever before, but they’re also more jaded and more aware of the pitfalls of working with online entities. You are being asked to reinvent yourself and your business, to restore your environment to one that gently, authentically calls to potential clients.
Creating Spaces for Transformation
A Space of Understanding
Recognize where humans are at this moment in time. 🪷Create room for the realities so many face: the fear that exists in some communities, the anger in others, and the shared trauma we are all experiencing. We need compassion not only for our potential clients, but also for ourselves. You’re evolving and swimming in the same uncertain waters as those you want to help. Adding more harsh chemicals won’t clear the water- liberally sharing compassion and seeking understanding is the path forward.
A Space for Authenticity
Dig deep into who you are. Work through your trauma so you can genuinely assist others who come to you for growth. Put forth the version of yourself that the Universe has called you to be at this time- not a manufactured persona but your true self.
A Space for Courage
As a leader, speaking your truth is essential🔮. This includes acknowledging other perspectives and embracing actions and ideas that serve everyone. Your voice matters to your audience,
And taking action creates change. You may be surprised by the responses you receive.
Just last week, I commented on a 🖋️Medium article. While I agreed with the overall message, the proposed actions required the same privilege and access that the article was addressing. I shared my thoughts, expecting disagreement from other commenters who seemed to unanimously support the author. Instead, my comment sparked additional dialogue with the author and commentors, creating a discussion that opened the doors to solutions more wide-ranging than the author originally shared.
A Space for Love
Let your 💕heart shine through as you guide your clients’ transformation. Authenticity without love is empty.
I don’t presume that you were not already operating from this space. However, I’m being called to redouble my efforts to ensure that I “do no harm”. Will I make mistakes? Absolutely- I’m human. You will make mistakes too. Your compassion and understanding will be tested.
Every action you take influences the ecosystem around you. Your reinvention to meet today’s needs is precisely why you’re here, on this planet, at this time.
Yesterday, I discovered a praying mantis on the carrots 🥕 in my container garden- only 1.5” long, so tiny in this vast world. As insects, they appear only when the ecosystem is thriving. Symbolically, they represent meditation, intuition, patience, and abundance.
They signal that your actions are making a positive difference.
How will you recognize that your reinvention efforts are having a positive impact? Share your insights so we can learn from one another.
