A Bad Dye Job and Unrequested Messages
I’m sitting in a hair salon, under a heater, trying to get a bad color job out of my hair.
I have beautiful, natural hair- platinum with bits of brown, a little curl. I get compliments from random men and women. Since my late 20’s I’ve put semi-permanent color in my hair- blue, purple, red, pink. I’d take the time to create an artsy presentation. This also brought compliments from random men and women.
Thirty years into my hair journey, the Universe had enough. Just a few weeks ago, I put a semi-permanent color in my hair that did not do anything close to what it advertised. My beautiful platinum showed up black, and the brown stayed brown. It was horrible- no highlights, no texture, no interest… I was so sad.
And, after all of these years, it may have been a message from the Universe to let the professionals do their job. So I went on a journey to find an expert who could give me a fun cut, fix the color, and then regularly play with the color.
Here I sit. She’s already done the cut- it’s amazing, it’s what I’ve been describing to other stylists for ages. The results of those cuts have been less than impressive.
What does it take to get you to listen to the Universe (your guides, angels…), on the stuff you aren’t actively asking about?
I wasn’t looking for answers or suggestions about my hair or hair color, and I got a big message.
On the scale of attention-getting actions, the wrong color was pretty mild. My hair didn’t turn dishwater yellow, it didn’t fall out, it just was not right. Even that “not right” color would disappear- it was a semi-permanent color.
What does it take for you to
1. Notice when the Universe is trying to get your attention?
2. To actually act upon that message?
The Sacred Discernment Protocol™
A sacred arc of reception, discernment, embodiment, and integration. Honoring both intuition first and reality as collaborators.
· Be present in the moment to see/hear/feel the message
· Be emotionally available to grasp the message- What are you being asked to look at? What are you being asked to notice?
· Be emotionally available to process the message- objectively, without the bias of emotions or culture. What are you being asked to consider doing, changing, being? How will the change impact your life, your business, your family?
· Be available or willing to act on the suggestion- you may not be interested in acting on the suggestion, or may only be willing to ‘trust’ the suggestion to partial completion.
· Have the means to act on the message- you may not think you have the means. Can you open up your receiving or giving channels to bring in what you need?
· Be available to embrace the result in all of its iterations.
At any point, you can, consciously or unconsciously, decide you are no longer interested in making the changes suggested by the Universe. We are sovereign; we have the power of choice.
What do you lose by starting down a path and then deciding you have had enough?
What do you gain?
Either way, you have experience, and there are learnings along the way. You may even learn that you aren’t as ready for change as you thought you were.
It’s ok to stop. What’s important is the noticing. Being present to the nudges and two-by-fours the Universe sends your way. Life is easier if you are paying attention to the nudges. I consider a nudge the color issue I had; a two-by-four would have been breaking hair.
In noticing you find growth, you find the opportunity for choice. You find the opportunity for moderation and the opportunity to jump in with both feet.
The willingness to act on a suggestion can be overwhelmed by fear or bias. Rebecca was aware that to grow her company, she needed to uplevel her marketing prowess. The Universe was continually reminding her that there were growth opportunities. That included bringing in a specialist and following their recommendations to grow the company.
Rebecca would commit to a marketing person, commit to a new strategy, commit to launching the strategy, and somewhere along the way would get scared and pull back the new strategy.
She did this multiple times.
There was a point where she could not emotionally overcome the fear of the unknown.
The what-ifs would pile up- what if this new strategy doesn’t work, what if it does? What does either outcome mean to me as a leader? What does it mean for my message? Then there is all of the unknown of the unknown.
Emotionally, she was available to the message, available to process the message, but not emotionally able to act on the message. She was not able to fully commit, to overcome her fear, and move forward with trust.
The question for her is, how exigent do the circumstances have to become for her to fully commit?
Does the company start to lose money?
Does she have to let people go?
Does she have to lower her personal salary?
Does her status as a leader begin to wane?
Is she so committed to her message and vision that she is willing to make the changes and overcome the fear that is holding her back?
You have your personal journey, and until you are in that situation, you have no idea how you will react. You like to believe you know… but time has taught me you don’t truly know.
Rebecca is taking on her fear- after trying and pulling back at least three times. It’s not how often you try, it’s what you learn.
Embracing the results is another area where you can stumble. Amy has done lots of money work. She’s changed her circumstances through that work. And swore she had no more money work to do.
Except she does. The Universe is showing her, she doesn’t see it. She wants people to work her events for free. Yea, I know. Some of the biggest names in the personal development business use “volunteers”. I’ve had these conversations with those big names.
The bottom line for them is that they just don’t want to pay someone else. They have a lack mindset- “I’m just spending more money”. Their ego allows them to believe that simply by being in the room, the “volunteer” gets more than their money’s worth from working the event. That’s simply not the case. It’s the big name taking advantage of people who want to be closer to them.
A positive money mindset knows that paid people are more invested in the outcome, in their role; a positive money mindset knows that spending more doesn’t make your ROI less, it gives you returns in ways ROI can’t calculate (customer satisfaction, client commitment etc.); a positive money mindset knows that we grow and learn lessons in a spiral- so if a money challenge is coming up, there is something to be learned.
Learning is a spiral.
Amy’s up to her next growth curve around money.
Does she embrace the results she has had and reach for the next level?
The Sacred Discernment Protocol™ lays out what you need to sense and take advantage of the message the Universe provides, even when you are not asking for a message. The choices along the way are yours.
None of them is wrong, none is right. This is your journey. Notice where you are, notice when you feel the tightness in your chest, and when you feel expansive.
Finding a great hairstylist felt expansive to me. I love the results. You decide for yourself.
I’d love to hear how you have worked with the un-requested messages the Universe sent you, just comment or hit reply.
